The Sabbatical Course is a programme of language courses for education practitioners which is now housed at the National Centre for Learning Welsh, and aims to increase the number of practitioners who can teach through the medium of Welsh or bilingually as well as to upskill practitioners in terms of pedagogy, language acquisition and how to effectively transfer the language to learners.
Rhagoriaith is one of three course providers and serves a wide area that includes Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Powys, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
Quote from former students of the Sabbatical Course;
"Biggest thing I found with the course is not just the Welsh, it's the methodology as well, it's transformed the way I teach, even the English language. Learning about the methodology has helped me with my teaching skills, and getting the learning across. And since I've learned Welsh the Welsh language is booming in my class."
“What an amazing course! In my 27 years of teaching, I’ve never experienced anything so impactful for my continuing professional development. My only regret is not doing it sooner. It’s given me the tools to thrive in the classroom and has been invaluable for my personal growth with Welsh.”
"Doing the Welsh Sabbatical Course is one of the best decisions I’ve made as a teacher! The tutors’ knowledge is second to none, and the course is so well-structured with varied content that kept me engaged throughout. I loved how it wasn’t just about learning Welsh but also about understanding the methodology of being a language teacher. It’s fun, practical, and has opened so many doors for me to use Welsh confidently both inside and outside the classroom. I can’t recommend it enough to other teachers—this course truly transforms how you teach and connect with the language!"
