About Us

Rhagoriaith is part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Welsh Language Service Centre, established in 2017 to develop, provide and lead on the University’s language training provision internally for students and staff, as well as commercially at a national level.

The Centre has developed and provides language learning courses and language proficiency courses for students and University staff and has a key role in providing language courses for students across the University. The Centre is also responsible for three postgraduate certificates, one in Simultaneous Interpretation that is part of a national Masters’ scheme, the MA Translation Studies, a Certificate in Subtitling, the only one of its kind in Wales through the medium of Welsh. And a postgraduate certificate in Language Policy and Planning that's part of the MA Bilingualism and Multilingualism.

The Centre is one of the providers of the Sabbatical Course which is now housed in the National Centre for Learning Welsh. Delivered directly to education practitioners across a wide area of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Powys, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. We also have Two Education Workforce tutors a part of the Centre and provide tailored courses for education practitioners in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

Additionally, the Centre offers a range of Welsh language learning courses and training to external organisations and schools. We have courses on developing reading and literacy skills, language proficiency courses, courses on language acquisition pedagogy as well as courses on the requirements of the Language Standards. This work contributes strategically to strategic agendas at a national level in relation to the Welsh in Education Strategic Plans and the Language Standards and all of this contributes to the target of reaching one million speakers by 2050.

The Centre also contributes to relevant language projects led by Peniarth. These are mostly commissioned projects by Adnodd and the Welsh Government and contribute directly to raising standards of literacy and numeracy across the education sector in Wales.

The specialties of the staff and their experience of learning on the Sabbatical courses mean that they can offer the highest quality training. We can offer language training on commercial terms to the education sector in Wales, whether these are courses for the further education sector or tailored INSET days, to respond to the needs of the primary and secondary sectors.
