Rhagoriaith, University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Welsh Language Services Centre is currently touring around Wales promoting a unique course offered by the University – a Postgraduate Certificate in Translation.

This is the only training of it’s kind available in Wales, and it is a recognised qualification by Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru (the association of Welsh translators interpreters). With one session already taken place in Abertystwyth, further taster session are to be held in Cardiff, Carmarthen and Caernarfon.

Dr Lowri Lloyd, Rhagoriaith Director said, “The course itself is a unique opportunity for translators and prospective translators to gain a vocational, practical qualification in simultaneous translation. We are aware that there are a number of text translators interested in simultaneous translation, but perhaps feel hesitant about going at it to master the craft, and so this why we’ve decided to organise taster sessions across Wales, to give translators the opportunity to get some translating experience in an informal atmosphere. With a growing demand for simultaneous translators in light of the Welsh Language Standards, it is a great opportunity for us as a provider and for individuals who want to gain a new skill or perhaps career diversification. The response has been great so far, with dozens of people having booked a place on the sessions”.

There are a limited number of spaces left on the taster sessions, with tickets available for free via the links below, or by emailing rhagoriaith@pcydds.ac.uk .
